- The Valdai car with the MMZ-245 engine has been working with us for the seventh year already, but the total mileage is still small - only about 40 thousand km. A car with an onboard tented body, loads - the most diverse, except for food. We travel mainly in Moscow and the region, but there are also orders for flights to neighboring regions, including those on bad roads. Nevertheless, the undercarriage of the car has not yet required repairs - no backlash in the pivot joints of the front axle and steering linkage joints was found during the last inspection. The engine and transmission are also in perfect working order. Of the little things, I note the periodically falling voltage of the generator, as evidenced by the sharp deviations of the ammeter needle. But so far there has been no critical discharge of the battery. The tires on the front wheels have already had to be replaced with Cormoran of the same size, while the rear wheels still have native ones. Fuel consumption on the highway is about 16 l / 100 km, in the city - about 20 l / 100 km.
Modernization and improvement
A considerable amount of work was carried out in 2010 to improve and modernize the car, a set of measures aimed at improving the performance and characteristics of the GAZ-33106 Valdai was translated into reality. The main stage of modernization was the equipping of the car with a new Cummins diesel power plant, which made it possible to expand the technical capabilities of the already popular truck. Transmission
The car is equipped with a Sacs single-plate diaphragm clutch, which has a high degree of reliability and ease of maintenance. At GAZ, a five-speed gearbox with a power take-off drive operates in tandem with the engine.
Its body is cast from aluminum, which significantly reduces the total weight of the machine. But at the same time it has sufficient operational strength. Modifications
In fact, there were only six of them, not counting the piece pre-series, equipped with GAZ-562 and IVECO 8040.45C engines - three with each of the engines. However, in practice, about a dozen reputable rebuilders are seriously involved in the re-equipment of medium-duty vehicles, whose design and technological capabilities are boldly trusted by both dealers of domestic car factories and importers of foreign cars. The trailer LLC (Stupino, Moscow Region), known for its trailers, went the furthest in finalizing Valdai, where they created a three-axle modification with a carrying capacity of 5.5 tons with an air suspension of a “sloth” drawbridge - the benefit of compressed air from a compressor at Valdai enough. The first three years of production at Valdai were equipped with a Minsk 4.8-liter MMZ-245 engine in Euro-2 performance - with mechanical fuel injection, that is, equipped with an in-line high-pressure fuel pump and digesting low-quality fuel without problems. Since 2008, the Euro-3 engine has gone - with much more sensitive to impurities and very expensive Common Rail equipment from Bosch. The designation of the engine remained the same - MMZ-245.7, which cannot be said about the filling: many of the most important parts have changed, including pistons, connecting rods, piston pins, etc. At the end of 2010, the Chinese-made Cummins ISF3.8s3154 engine went to the assembly of Valdai cars, of course , also with Common Rail and also meeting Euro-3 requirements. For about six months, both engines were available, and then, from the beginning of 2011, only Cummins began to be installed on cars for the Russian market. The four-cylinder 3.8-liter unit with a declared resource of 500 thousand km is assembled on a non-sleeved cylinder block, has a rod drive of sixteen valves and a chain drive of the lower camshaft from the flywheel side. The chain is with an automatic tensioner, its durability is enough for the entire life of the motor before overhaul. Valve clearance adjustment is traditional - a screw with a locknut, the frequency is every 240 thousand km. High pressure fuel pump drive - gear from the front toe of the crankshaft.
Switching to Cummins made the car much more comfortable - the cab became much quieter, idle vibrations were gone, and fuel consumption decreased by about 1 l / 100 km. It is curious that the transition to modification 33106 was accompanied by an increase in the declared carrying capacity from 3.5 to 4.0 tons. Although the car initially, and with the Minsk engine, too, was physically four tons - the extra 500 kg was crossed out only on paper so that the buyer would not fall under the requirement to license transportation. On June 2, 2005, this was canceled by federal law, and the need for camouflage disappeared, but GAZ, by inertia, continued to advertise Valdai as a 3.5-ton vehicle for another five long years.
Chassis
Truck frame elements are made of high-strength steel by stamping and riveting, which affects the high load capacity and endurance.
Spars with a variable profile size are the main component of the frame, which is used as a basis in all models of this car brand, regardless of equipment.
