The popularity of MAZ-5336 is undeniable. The secret lies in the fact that this truck combines a comfortable 2- or 3-seater cab, in which there are seat belts, an engine heater, excellent sound insulation, ABS, rich functionality: fire and construction equipment, tankers can be installed on the truck for fuel, tanks. And thanks to the carrying capacity of 10.9 tons, you can transport almost any heavy and oversized cargo. But most often MAZ-5336 is found in road trains, because its main task was and remains "long-range" transportation.

All modifications of the MAZ-5336 have a lot of technical characteristics that significantly affect the course of the truck. For example, an improved front suspension equipped with anti-roll bars. The design of the truck has a colossal working resource: the approximate mileage between each major overhaul is about 1 million km. MAZ-5336 is able to "survive" on low-quality fuel, has a relatively good cross-country ability and tolerates long heavy loads.

Chassis

Running MAZ-5336 is its strength. The suspension design was borrowed from previous models of the Belarusian manufacturer, but finalized by eliminating the existing shortcomings.

MAZ-5336 trucks have leaf spring suspension:

  • The front suspension is semi-elliptical, equipped with shock absorbers and anti-roll bars.
  • Rear suspension - includes a pair of main and a pair of additional springs, equipped with anti-roll bars.

The front suspension has a simple, but reliable and efficient design. It consists of the following parts:

  • two longitudinal springs;
  • ladders;
  • front bridge.

The springs are made of load-resistant steel, in cross-section their profile forms the letter "T". In this way, possible displacements are avoided. The front part of the springs is securely fixed to the truck frame, which makes it possible to move freely in the vertical direction. The rear parts of the springs are located on sliding mechanisms, through which vibrations are successfully damped.

The MAZ-5336 front suspension shock absorbers are hydraulic and are attached to the front axle using a bracket. Shock absorbers effectively dampen the vibrations of the front springs, which allows you to extend the life of the frame. Even when driving on rough roads, the shaking in the cab of the truck is practically not felt.

The rear suspension of the MAZ-5336 must withstand much greater loads, therefore it has a more complex design. The ends of the springs, as well as the front suspension, rest on supports. The central part of the springs is attached with ladders to the balancers. The balancers have a movable mount and swing on the axles.

Chassis and suspension maintenance

The chassis of the MAZ-5336 truck is subjected to significant loads during operation, therefore, for the stable operation of the suspension, it requires regular and timely maintenance. When visually inspecting the front and rear suspension, special attention must be paid to nuts and other connections, as they often loosen due to vibration loads.

Shock absorbers are another element of the running gear that requires attention during the maintenance of the MAZ-5336, since it is these parts that take on the vibration energy when the flatbed truck moves. It is necessary to change shock absorbers at least once a year, and premature replacement of shock absorbers may be required if they have visual damage.

About the MAZ-5336 family

All models of the "classic" MAZ-5336 are equipped with powerful diesel engines and transmissions from the Yaroslavl Motor Plant. In the early 2000s, a small amount of MAZ-533632-321 was produced with German gearboxes and an Euro-3 compliant engine. Despite the presence of several shortcomings, the MAZ-5551 is still considered one of the best solutions of the plant, since it has been performing its functions regularly for decades, regardless of the vagaries of the weather and the intensity of operation.

  • depending on the direction of movement of the truck, hydraulic oil is returned to the tank or is supplied to one of the cavities of the power cylinder;
  • the oil-free cavity is connected through the drain line to the tank;
  • if the truck moves in a straight line, oil is supplied through the pressure hose and then through the drain line back to the tank;
  • if the truck turns, then when the steering wheel is turned, hydraulic oil is supplied to one of the cavities of the power cylinder, exerting pressure on the tie rod associated with it;
  • If you stop turning the steering wheel, the oil begins to drain back into the reservoir.

The power steering on the MAZ-5336 is highly sensitive, making it easier to control a flatbed truck even at maximum load. In general, the steering mechanism is quite reliable, although it requires regular maintenance - in particular, inspection for power steering leaks and tightening the bolts to eliminate steering column play.

To prevent the simultaneous inclusion of two gears, a lock is provided on the MAZ-5336 transmission. When one of the rods moves, it locks the rest in a neutral position.
