The share of cargo transportation by road accounts for a significant amount of all cargo. Delivery is carried out over long distances, in connection with this, it becomes relevant to reduce the number of flights with an increase in the mass of transported materials, goods and other things. This allows transport companies to get more revenue at a lower cost.

In order to actually carry out such transportation, companies use the appropriate semi-trailers - a type of vehicle, the front of which is placed on the fifth wheel of the tractor. The rear of the semi-trailer has its own wheel axles. With this design, the load is evenly distributed and the control of the tractor is facilitated.
Semi-trailers are divided into types:

Curtainsider semi-trailer
Among carriers, this is the most popular model. Tilt semi-trailers are used for transportation of equipment, furniture, building materials, products and manufactured goods.
The main characteristics of this type:
- made of durable material, awnings are resistant to external factors; transported goods are protected from dust and moisture;
- the presence of modifications (with a hard or soft roof, movable elements);
- easy-to-use side panels, removable frames, sliding roofs.
In this category of semi-trailers, two additional subgroups are distinguished - flatbed and curtain.
The former are used in the transportation of building materials that do not require special storage conditions. These models may have fold-down sides; special rings through which the cable is passed to secure the load.
Oversized cargo is transported on curtain semi-trailers. The semi-trailer's removable tarpaulin allows for top, side and rear loading.
Curtainsider semi-trailer
This type of semi-trailer is suitable for transporting various types of cargo. The advantages of a tilt semi-trailer include simplicity of design, ease of loading (loading and unloading operations can be carried out from three sides), and relative cheapness. Disadvantages: about once a year or two, you have to completely change the awning, because it tends to burst, especially with frequent top loads, the inability to transport certain types of cargo in winter, which simply freeze. Curtain semi-trailers are one of the types of tented ones.

This type is more often used in the transportation of liquids: oil and oil products, milk, water, molasses and other bulk cargoes. Semi-trailers transporting foodstuffs are certified and subject to regular sanitation.
In addition to liquid cargo, tank semi-trailers are used in the transportation of bulk products. These are granulated sugar, flour, grain, polymer granules, mineral fertilizers and animal feed.
The inner surface of the tank is covered with special neutral substances that prevent corrosion and do not react with the transported goods.
Structurally, the tanks are hermetically sealed containers with a filling and emptying facility - a system of filling / unloading valves and sluices. As a rule, tanks are equipped with meters to control the volume of the drained liquid.
A separate category is represented by cement trucks, which have distinctive features: a V-shaped design, top loading and emptying through a lock at the bottom.
For the manufacture of such models, high-strength wear-resistant materials are used. Cement trucks have a three-axle chassis, the barrel itself has a volume of 20-45 cubic meters. The cement loading and unloading speed is 0.5-0.7 tons/min. In select models, loading and unloading is carried out using compressed air, which speeds up the process and reduces downtime. These models have two compressor stations.

According to the weight restrictions for trucks on the territory of the Russian Federation, the maximum weight of a road train must not exceed 38 tons. The weight of a truck tractor is approximately 7 tons, the weight of a semi-trailer is also around 7 tons, i.e. it turns out: 38-7-7 \u003d 24 tons, this is the maximum permitted carrying capacity of an euro truck. Since the weight of the tractor and trailer may differ depending on the make and model, there is a generally accepted rule that a euro truck can safely and without violations transport loads weighing up to 20 tons, which is why the designation “20 tons euro truck” appeared.
This type of trailer is widely in demand, it is on it that most of the goods are transported, for example: equipment, building materials, metal, metal structures, various equipment, lumber, paper, spare parts, etc.
The main advantage of a Eurotruck (Eurotent): a protective awning, under which the cargo is not threatened by wind, pollution, or precipitation. This cover rests on a frame with a crate, it is removable. It is easy to remove it (this action is called unawning) in order to load and unload the vehicle from one of the sides (left and right), as well as from behind and from above using a special crane. Such a number of loading options is another reason for the wide popularity of tilt-covered eurotrucks.
There are other models where the awning is not removed, but shifted, remaining at the top. In the people, this type was called the "curtain".
The standard load capacity of a tilt semi-trailer is 20 tons, and its capacity is 33 euro pallets. The maximum load capacity of a tilt truck is 24 tons. Now semi-trailers from the manufacturers Krone, Schmitz and Lamberet are driving around Russian roads.

Refrigerator
Such models are characterized by increased tightness, which allows you to transport perishable goods. Semi-trailers for transportation with temperature control are divided into two types.
1. Refrigerator

Made of isothermal material, such semi-trailers have their own refrigeration unit. Moisture-resistant, not subject to mechanical damage, foam material is used for insulation.
In the manufacture of walls and roofs, sandwich panels are used, covered with durable plastic or metal. With this design, the cargo is reliably protected from the effects of the external environment. Depending on the type of transported cargo, the temperature is set in the range from -25 to + 25 degrees C, maintained by a refrigeration unit.
2.Isothermal semi-trailer
Such a semi-trailer does not have its own refrigeration unit, but it can maintain a certain temperature for a long time. It can be compared constructively with a large thermos, in which the transported cargo is reliably protected, but this type of semi-trailers is not used for long-distance transportation, since there is no possibility for long-term storage. It is used for intracity transportation of perishable products.

Isotherm
Semi-trailer, the cargo compartment of which is thermally insulated and not equipped with a refrigeration unit. Designed for short-term transportation of perishable goods, maintains the original internal temperature for a limited time. It has a volume and carrying capacity similar to a refrigerator.
Automatic coupler
Combined truck, including a tractor with a tilt semi-trailer and a trailer. Allows for quick loading and unloading, transports the maximum amount of cargo on public roads without special permits. Not intended for transporting long items.

Container ship
Immediately by name, the specifics of the use of these semi-trailers is determined - container transportation. Since containers are bulky cargo with standard dimensions, almost all models of container ships are equipped with a rigging system.
Container ships are divided into two types:
- Standard with a frame length of 12.5 m. It can carry one 40-foot container or two 20-foot containers.
- A low-bed semi-trailer adapted for the carriage of dry cargo containers with increased internal and external space.
To simplify the loading process, most models are equipped with rear and front retractable platforms.
Low-bed heavy truck (trawl)
Used for transportation of heavy and oversized cargo to any distance. It is convenient to transport construction equipment with these semi-trailers: a complete set allows you to start working immediately upon arrival of special equipment at the construction site.
The trawls are equipped with special ladders for the arrival of equipment on the platform of the semi-trailer. Since the loads are high, heavy trucks have a larger number of wheel axles compared to flatbed semi-trailers.
Dynamic loads are reduced, and wear resistance of heavy trucks is increased by equipping them with rotary axles.
Separately, in the line of trawl models there are car transporters designed for transporting vehicles over long distances - trucks and cars. Up to 12 passenger cars can be accommodated on a two-tiered platform. Some modifications provide protection against accidental ingress of pebbles on products - additional awnings or sides.
Timber carrier
Timber carriers deliver sawn timber or whips. It is characterized by U-shaped frames that allow you to securely fix the load. Fixing elements (conics) can be movable or fixed. Mobile bunkies are more convenient to use: they can be adjusted to transport logs of any length.
