Carburetor Adjustment Chainsaw Cedar

Lean and rich mixtures

A little more about the "poor" and "rich" mixtures.

"Rich Blend"

A "rich" mixture is a fuel mixture in which the amount of fuel supplied to the carburetor exceeds the norm. In this case, the fuel does not have time to burn completely and less energy is produced than with the optimal ratio of fuel and air. Partially unused fuel enters the muffler, then the chainsaw smokes heavily.

"poor mix"

There is excess air in the "poor" mixture, which is not good, as it has its drawbacks. Namely: insufficient energy during a flash (which means a loss of power in the end), excessive heating of the cylinder due to insufficient lubrication and high speeds, which leads to scuffing, and there it is not far from the engine “jamming”.

The design consists of several nodes, some of which are open to the operator. These include:

  • handles (front and back);
  • protective screens (front and rear);
  • cover (fuel tank, muffler, coupling, oil reservoir, air cleaner);
  • starter handle;
  • replacement pump;
  • activate throttle with blocking;
  • cylinder cover;
  • ignition switch;
  • Sucker button;
  • saw machine (chain and bar);
  • screw tension adjustment chain;
  • chain spectacle.

All built-in systems can be adjusted, in particular, the carburetor can be adjusted, as well as the degree of oil supply to the saw chain for lubrication.

Oil for lubrication can be used with a special saw or a conventional motor. A fuel mixture consisting of pure gasoline and oil in a ratio of 50: 1 can be used as fuel. The presence of additives in gasoline, in particular methyl or ethyl alcohol, is not allowed.

As a basis for the device, a two-stroke engine for 1 cylinder with a carburetor diaphragm type was used.

Reviews about the chainsaw Echo CS-350WES

Eugene Pila is light and starts very quickly. I was helpful in sawing wood. Spilled at times 3 ashes and an old poplar Nikolay I have been using a saw for 3 years. I liked the anti-vibration system. Andrey Pila is light and comfortable. I do not recommend using it in the heat because it overheats quickly. In the countryside, this is simply irreplaceable.

Chainsaw carburetor adjustment

Most chainsaws have three adjustment screws on the carburetor. In order for each:

  • T - Idling screw. The idle screw is responsible for the position of the throttle when the "gas" handle is fully released. If the throttle is not open enough, the engine will stall when the handle is released, as the throttle will cut off the fuel mixture. If the throttle is open more than it should be, then the chain will rotate, which is strictly prohibited by safety regulations when working with a chainsaw.
  • L-Screw for adjusting low speed. This screw regulates the amount of fuel in the fuel mixture when the chainsaw is idling. If the amount of fuel is large, then the engine will stall under load, if there is not enough fuel, the result will be engine overheating, scuffing, and so on ...
  • H-Screw for adjusting high speed. Responsible for the amount of fuel in the mixture when the chainsaw is running. If this adjustment is set to a larger amount of fuel, then the engine runs “unacceptably” and smokes, and if it is set to a smaller amount, then we get too high speed and overheating.

Carburetor adjustment step by step

  1. Check the condition of the air filter. Remove it and either clean it or replace it. If the air filter is clogged with dirt and sawdust, the chainsaw will not work normally.
  2. Check the condition of the muffler. It must be clean and uncluttered. Read more about cleaning the muffler HERE.
  3. Before you start adjusting the carburetor, fill the fuel tank at least halfway.
  4. If the chainsaw is able to start, then it should be allowed to run for a few minutes so that it warms up. If the adjustment is carried out “cold”, then the mixture will be over-enriched after warming up.
  5. It is necessary to start the adjustment by adjusting the idle speed - screw L. It is highly desirable to have a tachometer, then we focus on 2700 rpm. If not, then we need to find the highest idle speed. In this case, the chain must not rotate! If it is still spinning (the chain, of course, not the Earth), then we achieve its stop by turning the screw T. The sound of the chainsaw should be like when listening to the file below.
  6. We adjust the high speed - screw H. If we turn it clockwise, the speed will increase, and if counterclockwise, it will fall. We twist it until dips in the ignition appear. After that, turn it out about one-fifth of a turn. The sound of a chainsaw when working at maximum speed should be the same as when listening to the file below.
  7. We check how the chainsaw is gaining momentum. She must dial them smoothly and quickly. If the speed increases slowly, then slightly turn out the screw L.

Remember that the optimal carburetor adjustment is:

  • The maximum possible life of the chainsaw
  • Optimum fuel consumption
  • Good performance

Situations that require customization

The new tool is already ready for work. In this regard, for some time the question of how to set up a carburetor on a chainsaw will not arise. However, experienced owners of the unit often fine-tune. To do this, it is absolutely not necessary to disassemble the carburetor, since three adjusting screws are provided in its design:

  • L - used at low speeds.
  • H - allows you to adjust the maximum supply of flammable liquid.
  • T - necessary for idling adjustment.

All fine-tuning actions are carried out by ear, and at this time it is necessary to adhere to safety rules. Before starting all manipulations, marks should be applied to the adjusting screws so that it is easier to return to the default setting if necessary.

Most often, the problems are caused by the setting, which is carried out after a failure in the operation of the unit. Among the main reasons for their appearance should be noted:

  • Unbalanced screws and violation of the location of the protective cap.
  • Wear of the piston system, which requires changes in the composition of the fuel mixture.
  • Problems with the operation of the carburetor itself.

The principle of operation of the carburetor

Most often, problems in the carburetor can be fixed by hand. However, for this you need to understand the basic principles of its work.

The principle of operation of the carburetor:

  • After starting the engine, the damper opens through which air enters the carburetor;
  • A low pressure zone is created in the air wind tunnel and float chamber, as a result of which air is sucked in through the diffuser;
  • The intensity of the air intake changes, depending on the position in which the damper is set;
  • At this time, gasoline enters the diffuser from the chainsaw tank, where it mixes with air;
  • A so-called air-fuel mixture is formed, which is sent through the intake channels directly into the combustion chamber;

Carburetor device

In this short review, we will not be able to describe in detail all the details of the carburetor and thoroughly familiarize ourselves with all the nuances of its operation, but we will focus only on the main points.

The carburetor consists of the following components:

  • Tube with air damper. A small wind tunnel, which is designed to regulate the flow of air. The transverse damper, depending on its position, reduces or increases the amount of air, depleting or enriching the fuel mixture;
  • Diffuser. Made in the form of a narrowing at the end of the wind tunnel. The main task is to increase the pressure and speed of air when mixed with fuel;
  • Nozzle or atomizer. Designed to supply fuel and mix it with oxygen.
  • float chamber. A special tank that provides a stable level of gasoline at the inlet to the air channel.

Determining if you need to adjust the carburetor on your chainsaw

Before you start adjusting the carburetor on a chainsaw, you need to make sure that it is required at all. It would seem an absurd phrase. However, in 90% of cases when an inexperienced master considers such an action necessary, the unstable operation of the tool is due to other reasons, including:

  • problems in the fuel lines and filter - blockages, depressurization;
  • exhaust system malfunction;
  • blockage or damage to the air filter;
  • unstable operation of the ignition system;
  • violation of the tightness of the engine crankcase.

Only if these problems are excluded, and the engine is unstable, can we say with certainty that carburetor adjustment is required.
